Simnasho
Children & Family Center
Project Overview
Papalaxsimisha is developing a new Children and Family Center on the Warm Springs Reservation. This center will serve as community hubs offering respite child care and wraparound services for all reservation members, tribal and non-tribal. The project is funded by a childcare capacity-building grant (addressing direct community needs) and a CED grant with the South Wasco Alliance (focusing on job creation and community health).
Locations
Simnasho
The Simnasho center will be located near the old school, across from the longhouse and gas station.
Example Schedule:
3 days a week of respite childcare*
2 days for community programs*
*Based on Community feedback & need.
The creation of this new center directly addresses significant community needs:
Consistent Community Space for Childcare in Simnasho
A dedicated location for progams to reach families with services e.g. medial, dental, food resources
A Place for Local Families
The center will provide flexible and accessible, drop-in respite care for various ages. It will also act as a community hub, partnering with other
organizations and tribal departments to host a range of wraparound services throughout the week.
The Simnasho center is being built in phases and is planned to include sustainable features like solar panels and outdoor spaces for traditional food processing.
Services will be responsive to community feedback, and while
Papalaxsimisha and its programs have no specific eligibility requirements and are available to all, partner programs may have
their own qualifications.
